Two important pieces of information went home on Tuesday, May 3rd: the Fifth Grade End of the Year Events list and the Science Fair Contract for Success. Please make sure you have seen both of these from your child's Tuesday folder.
There are many days coming up that you child is required to bring a bagged lunch: -June 1 - June 8 (completely disposable) - June 9 - June 17
I am looking for CORI'd parent to chaperone our Statehouse Field Trip on June 1st and volunteers to help out on our Field Day on June 17th. Please email me by May 13th if you have availability. I will pick those names as soon as possible so that you can make plans to accompany us to Boston.
On the last day of school, there is a Promotion Ceremony. More details will be sent home as it gets closer. Please understand that students will receive only 2 tickets per family. There has never an exception to this rules as we just don't have additional space. The students will have to stand throughout the entire ceremony due to a lack of additional seating.
Your child has been working on background information to lead up to their participation in the Science Fair. They have the Logbook in their Science Folders. These should travel to and from school daily until the Science Fair is completed. This project is meant to be an at home project with only support provided by the teachers. Students are being asked to find an experiment that interests them from the many ideas they have seen. (These are available for you to see on your child's Google Classroom page.) One variable needs to be changed from the original experiment to answer a What If? question. All due dates are available in the packet they brought home in their Tuesday Folders. Please sign and return the top page, if you haven't already done so.
You will be invited to attend the Science Fair for our class on June 8th. Students may be dismissed no earlier than 2:45 on this day so that all may see their presentations. Invitations will be sent out with further details as the date approaches.
Additionally, the students are encouraged to audition for the End of the Year Variety Show. This is a student only activity. Once again, there is not room for parents to attend if the students are all seated to watch.
Please contact me if you have any questions about what we are doing to end their last year at MKG and thank you for your support all year long.
Sincerely, Mrs. Kuketz
Hello Students and Parents/Guardians!
Welcome to our new school year! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and having a great year together!
The school has forwarded to you this year's fifth grade supply list. I teach using many notebooks, some of which I will supply (pink, orange, and light blue). I do recommend that you buy at least 2 blue notebooks. We use these for math almost every day and usually fill it up midway through term 2. It is also possible that a yellow notebook may need to be replaced closer to the end of the year. I ask that your child also bring in a red and green notebook. Matching folders are also necessary. Right now, there are great sales on both items. It would be appreciated if you could also pick up a black notebook and folder, if possible. Please know that if this is not possible, I will make the purchases myself. I don't want to put any undue stress on anyone in these trying times. Of course, any other items on the supply list will be used by your child.
In addition to these supplies, which would be best to bring in on the first day of school, as we take time to organize them, please have your child bring in a water bottle and snack. The water bottle can be refilled during the day. A cold water thermos is not required, but may make your child appreciate cool water on the warm days at the start of the school year. Also, if your child is reading a book at home, please have him/her bring that to school. I think it will make a child more comfortable to have something ready to read rather than trying to pick out a book on day one. Once I know what my students like to read, I will try to make sure my class library has some preferred genres.
